A Kitchen Reimagined to Reflect the Character of the Home
Houston, Texas
The goal of this remodel was to create a kitchen that felt more connected to the rest of the home. Throughout the house, exposed brick, floor-to-ceiling paneling, and painted shiplap ceilings with beams create a warm, layered aesthetic. While the existing kitchen featured a sleek contemporary design, it felt somewhat disconnected from these warmer elements of the home. One of the project's unique challenges was preserving the existing island. Its deep gray, high-gloss cabinetry and dramatic waterfall stone countertop were still important to the space, a major focal point. Rather than replace it, the design team used it as a starting point for the new palette. New cabinetry was selected in our Eire door style, a clean-lined profile that bridges traditional and contemporary styles. A custom khaki paint color was chosen for the new cabinetry to complement the existing island cabinetry while bringing warmth and balance to the space. From the beginning, the team at Lucas Eilers had a clear vision of how the materials would work together. To carry the island's deep gray tone throughout the kitchen, they incorporated metal-coated finishes on select cabinetry, open shelving, and the front of the range hood. These details add contrast and interest while helping tie the entire room together. The finished kitchen feels more integrated with the architecture of the home while maintaining a fresh, updated look. By combining existing elements with new materials and finishes, the result is a space that feels cohesive, functional, and as though it has always been part of the home's original design.
