This new construction project began with a strong and detailed vision by designer Tiffany McKinzie and her client to create a functional space that was brimming with style. When Emily Martin, Bentwood of Dallas Kitchen Designer, met with Tiffany and her client, she knew how to transform this vision into a livable and timelessly attractive space for this active Dallas family.
A Fresh Take on a Classic White Kitchen
The idea for this home was to realize a fresh look on the iconic “white kitchen” idea by blending elegance with functionality. The design team found that the solution began with textures and modern shapes. Cabinetry is the star of the spacious kitchen, with 3-D custom sphere mullions on glass front and solid doors for the added touch of sophistication. Reeded base panels at the island seating side also add texture and modern interest. Not only is this kitchen beautiful but it has optimal function with all the storage needed, tucked away but accessible.
Family Functionality without Sacrificing Style
This busy Dallas family required ample space for toys, games, and books, but wanted to keep an elegant aesthetic for impromptu get-togethers with family, friends and neighbors.
To tackle this challenge, our design team utilized clever storage spaces throughout the living area to allow for plenty of room to play. The custom cabinetry detail from the kitchen is repeated in the family room to continue the sophisticated design throughout the home. 3-D custom sphere mullions on the upper cabinetry and reeded detail on the base cabinetry flank the fireplace, creating a lovely focal wall. Meanwhile, the pocket door design conceals the TV, movies, games and books, which means the area can be transformed into an inviting space for guests at a moment’s notice.
Finishing Touches Make for Elegant Design
The white painted cabinetry is Bentwood’s ‘cotton’ paint color with hand-brushed finish. It contrasts beautifully with the absolute black countertops and oil-rubbed hardware in the kitchen. For an elegant modern look, mother of pearl mosaic tiles for the splash material were selected. And finally, hardwood floors add warmth to the design, and extend throughout the home, making it an inviting family space, perfect for casual but elegant entertaining.
