A Kitchen Built to Last

Some kitchens demand attention from the moment you walk in. Others feel like they belong, quietly rooted in a home for generations. This farmhouse kitchen remodel achieves both with striking clarity.

The homeowners often entertain and need a kitchen that can keep pace with a busy, social household. Yet function alone was never the mission. This family worked alongside designer Nicole Herger of Bentwood of Houston and interior designer Sandy Lucas of Lucas Eilers Design Associates with one shared goal. Together, they set out to honor the home’s original farmhouse character. Thoughtful modern upgrades would follow naturally from that foundation. The result is a kitchen that feels timeless, because it was designed from the start to be exactly that.

Bentwood Luxury Kitchens made the design possible through the full range of truly custom cabinetry solutions.

Honoring a Home’s Heritage

Bentwood cabinetry with the Lancaster door and drawer profile anchors the entire design. Alder wood in the Fern distressed finish gives the perimeter cabinetry a warm, lived-in feeling rooted in tradition.

Alder wood with a custom stain and distressing adds richness and contrast throughout the space. Distressed finishes were not selected for aesthetics alone. They communicate something deeper about how a home is meant to feel. Each mark and tonal variation suggests permanence, as though this cabinetry grew up inside the home.

Inset construction reinforces that impression with every deliberate detail. Its flush, precise fit reflects traditional craftsmanship at its most intentional. Nothing about these cabinets reads as an afterthought or a late addition. From first glance, they feel entirely original to the house and its long history.

A Range That Commands the Room

Every well-considered kitchen needs a strong focal point. Here, armoire-like cabinetry frames the 48-inch Wolf gas range with quiet authority.

Built to draw the eye naturally, this surround establishes the kitchen’s center without competing for attention. Its proportions echo classic furniture forms that feel right in a farmhouse setting.

Integrated refrigeration disappears behind cabinetry panels, creating a seamless, furniture-like appearance. A Sub-Zero 36-inch refrigerator/freezer anchors one side of the kitchen confidently.

Additional storage for drinkware and mugs is found around the corner from the main kitchen. A Sub-Zero 24-inch under-counter wine storage adds a refined touch.

A Wolf 30-inch warming drawer and Wolf 30-inch drawer microwave handle the details of real entertaining. Neither disrupts the kitchen’s cohesive farmhouse look.

Storage Designed for How You Live

Reworking the layout revealed new opportunities that hadn’t existed before. Deeper cabinetry facing the dining room now provides generous, purposeful storage for everyday needs. Oversized chargers and entertaining pieces that once had no home now have an organized, accessible place.

Previously unused space finally earns its keep in a practical, meaningful way. Near the range, a shallow pantry keeps spices and daily essentials within easy reach. Nothing about this addition disrupts the kitchen’s classic farmhouse aesthetic. Every inch of new storage serves a genuine function for this family.

When Matching Becomes a Craft

Matching new cabinetry stain to existing aged wood paneling is never simple work. The home’s original panels had developed a rich, layered character over many years. Rather than accept close enough, the Bentwood team chose a more committed path. They removed the pantry door directly from the home and shipped it straight to the factory. Craftsmen then studied that door with great care and examined its exact stain color and precise level of distressing in detail. Working from this real, physical reference, Bentwood developed a finish that samples alone could never achieve.

Results exceeded all expectations. Ultimately, the homeowner expressed deep gratitude, not only for the outcome but for the extraordinary effort invested. True craftsmanship shows up most clearly in exactly these uncompromising moments.
